Season 1921–22 was the 45th season in which Dumbarton competed at a Scottish national level, entering the Scottish Football League for the 23rd time and the Scottish Cup for the 34th time. == Overview == Dumbarton finished 20th, out of 22, in the First Division with 30 points, some way behind champions Celtic. Indeed with the introduction of automatic promotion/relegation, Dumbarton were relegated to Division Two for the following season. Note that Jock Wood's goal in the 3-3 draw against Third Lanark was Dumbarton's 1,000 goal in the Scottish Football League. In the Scottish Cup, Dumbarton were knocked out in the first round by Aberdeen. Locally, Dumbarton won both the Dumbartonshire Cup and the Dumbartonshire Charity Cup by defeating Dumbarton Harp (after a replay) and Clydebank (on corners won) respectively. Elsewhere, at the end of the season Dumbarton embarked on their first foreign tour, playing 8 matches in Norway and Sweden, winning 5, drawing 1 and losing 2, scoring 16 goals for the loss of 11. Two other friendlies were played against Vale of Leven and Leith Athletic.
